Seeing Wrinkles? Use Laser Resurfacing Treatment

by Melinda Hawkins

If you are seeing wrinkles on your face, there are many treatment options to help them go away. One of these treatments is laser resurfacing. This is done by a dermatologist and can be done in their office. Below is information on how laser resurfacing treatment is done to help you decide if this treatment will be the right choice for you.

Laser Resurfacing Treatment

Laser resurfacing treatment is used to rejuvenate your face using a special type of laser. The treatment will improve the appearance of your skin and treat wrinkles, acne scars, and other facial flaws. There are two different types of lasers that are used for this treatment.

One type of laser is known as the ablative laser. This layer removes the epidermis, which is the out layer of your skin. This layer is very thin, so it is not difficult to remove. The skin below the epidermis, known as the dermis, will then stimulate collagen growth. This is important because collagen is what improves your skin texture and makes your skin firmer. As the epidermis heals, your facial skin will be much tighter and smoother. This will make your wrinkles disappear or become much less noticeable, depending on how deep your wrinkles are.

A nonablative laser, which is also called a light source, can also be used. This is much less aggressive as it does not remove the epidermis. The laser goes deep enough into the skin to help stimulate collagen growth. Your recovery time is much shorter with a nonablative laser, but the results are much less noticeable when compared to using an ablative laser.

Laser Resurfacing Treatment Procedure

The doctor will first clean your skin to remove makeup, dirt, and other impurities. After this, a numbing lotion is placed on your skin to make the procedure more comfortable. There is a much more extensive resurfacing that goes deeper that would require you to be sedated. Your doctor can give you information about this.

During the procedure, the doctor uses the laser and directs it at the area of skin being treated. How powerful the laser is depends on the type of laser resurfacing treatment you choose. For example, a much stronger laser is used if you chose an ablative laser treatment. The procedure may take approximately 30 minutes to more than two hours depending on what you choose. In most cases, you will only need to have one treatment.
