4 Things To Look For In Salon Chairs

by Melinda Hawkins

You just purchased your own hair salon, and now it is time to outfit the space with equipment. One of the hardest things to find and buy are salon chairs. The right chairs will make your job easier, and the wrong chairs will make the experience less comfortable and enjoyable for your clients. So, how do you know which chairs are right for you? Here are four things to look for in a salon chair.

1. Proper Adjustments

You will need to adjust the chair several times when a customer is in it. If you cannot make these adjustments quickly and easily, your haircuts and styles will take longer, and your customers may be uncomfortable. The easiest chairs to operate have foot pedals. Make sure the foot pedal is wide and has plenty of stepping surface so you can utilize it when wearing big shoes and without having to be too precise with your foot placement.

2. Neutral Color

There are some really bright, colorful chairs on the market. They might look nice right now, but over time, the finish might become dull, or you may change the color of your salon, causing them to clash. Salon chairs are not cheap, so you don't want to have to replace them just because of their color. So, look for neutral-colored salon chairs, like those in cream or brown. They'll look classy for a decade or more.

3. Cleanable Finish

You will drop hair color on the chair -- it's only a matter of time! To prevent stains, make sure the chair has an easily cleanable finish. You want one that you can wipe dye straight off of, even if the dye has been sitting for a few minutes. This way, you won't rush and panic when a customer is in the chair, and you have spilled.

4. Comfort

When you are looking at chairs, make sure you take a few minutes to sit in them yourself! The chair should feel comfortable, and you should believe it will still be comfortable for a customer who is sitting in it after an hour. Chairs with plenty of padding and lumbar support are becoming more common, so you should have no trouble finding a cushy, comfortable model.

With the tips above, you will select salon chairs that are not only functional but also attractive. Don't be afraid to choose several different types of chairs so customers can sit in the one they like best! For more information, contact a company like Top Salon Furniture.
